On the eve of the fifth anniversary of the downing of Flight PS752, the grieving families paid tribute to the victims of the Islamic Republic
In response to a call from the Association of Families of Flight PS752 Victims, on Friday, January 3, 2025, Flight PS752 families, along with other justice-seeking families, gathered at Behesht Zahra Cemetery in Tehran. They honored the victims of the Islamic Republic’s crimes by offering flowers.
Among those present were the families of Flight PS752 victims, Sohrab Arabi’s mother, Saeed Zainali’s mother, Yalda Aghafazli’s father, Hossein Naderbeigi, Matin Hassani, Mohammad Ghobadlou’s mother and sister, Mohammad Khazaei’s father, Ali Tahooneh, and Matin Naderkhani’s parents. These families have lost their loved ones in various atrocities, from the 1999 University of Tehran dormitory attack and the suppression of the Green Movement to the missile attack by the IRGC on Flight PS752 and the repression of the Women, Life, Freedom uprising in 2022.
Following the killing of Mahsa (Jina) Amini in 2022 by Iran’s morality police, which sparked the Women, Life, Freedom movement, the Association of Families of Flight PS752 Victims has organized an annual campaign titled “To Every City, a Memorial, and to Every Memorial, a Flower.” This campaign invites Iranians worldwide to gather at the graves of the Islamic Republic’s victims on the anniversary of Flight PS752’s downing, honoring them with flowers and candles.
The gatherings of mourning and justice-seeking families on such occasions have been a way to resist forgetting, seek truth, and demand justice. However, these events have often been met with harassment, obstruction, and violence from the Islamic Republic’s security forces.
