Forough Khadem
Forough Khadem was born in September 1981 in City of Sari, North of Iran. She completed her primary, secondary, and high school education in Iran and New Zealand, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Tehran University in Plant Biology, then she earned her master’s degree from Tarbiat Modares University in the same field.
After working few years in her field, she decided to start her Ph.D. program in university of Manitoba. she received her doctorate in Immunology from University of Manitoba, 2016. Then, once again she decided to work with industry and she managed to build a Bridge between industry and academia through her national and international collaborative innovative research projects. Her research work during her B.Sc. And M.Sc. led to the discovery of novel anti-tuberculosis effects of two potent medicinal plants and the production of market-ready plant Phosphate Biofertilizer. Her Ph.D. research contributed to identify a novel vaccine/drug Immunomodulatory candidate against leishmaniasis, a deadly neglected tropical parasitic infectious disease.
She managed to Organized many national and international workshops, conferences, and meetings and attracted various sponsorships, which made her so dynamically involved in policymaking projects by providing advice and recommendations, volunteered for leading business development liaison roles, as well as teaching and being involved with community outreach programs.
Between 2010 till her untimely death on board of PS752 on Jan. 8, 2020, she participated and volunteered in events and meetings held by many institutions as result of working on organizing/steering committees she broaden her knowledge, enhance her networking skills, and refresh her entrepreneurial and business expertise.
She was very kind, generous and have a nice and brilliant laughs most of the time. She was loved dearly by her family, friends, and her colleagues at work. She was always ready to help friends who needed her help, even when she was facing her own difficulties. she was always greeting everyone with a kind smile and showing a supportive personality.
In her last two years of life she also found real love. Two amazing happy years that will be remembered for ever by a man who shall never relent from his pursuit for Justice. After we lost her so soon, so young in such a tragic way, we decided to create a prestigious Endowment scholarship fund in her honor at the university of Manitoba to help keep her legacy and name alive for many years to come.
