Report on the Fifth Anniversary of Downing of Flight PS752: London
On the fifth anniversary of the downing of Flight PS752, two events were held in London to honour the memory of the victims of this tragedy. Both events were organized in collaboration between the “London Women, Life, Freedom Group” and the families of the victims residing in London. Since the Mahsa Amini uprising, this group has organized numerous events for various occasions and has played an active role in the city of London.
On January 8, 2025, a gathering took place at Alexandra Palace Park, where people lit candles and laid flowers beside a bench dedicated to the memory of Ghanimat Azhdari and other victims of Flight PS752. Iranian community activists in London, the families seeking justice for the 1980s mass executions, and the family of Nazanin Zaghari were among the attendees.
The ceremony on January 11, 2025, featured the screening of the documentary “752 Is Not a Number” at SOAS University of London. This documentary narrates part of the life and efforts of Hamed Esmaeilion in his pursuit of justice for his wife, Parisa, and daughter, Reera, who were murdered when Flight PS752 was shot down by the missiles of the IRGC.
After the screening, Azamat Azhdari, who lost his sister Ghanimat in this crime, expressed gratitude to the attendees and emphasized the importance of remembering this tragedy. Professor Payam Akhavan, a prominent human rights lawyer and advisor to the Canadian government on the Flight PS752 case, also delivered a brief speech to the audience. Following the film, Babak Payami, the film’s director, and Hamed Esmaeilion joined the event online to answer questions from the attendees. Additionally, books published by the Association and Pareera Publications, containing the memories of the families of the victims, were made available to the public.
