Statement of the Association Regarding the Designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a Terrorist Organization in Canada
Today, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has finally been listed as a terrorist organization in Canada. The IRGC was responsible for the deliberate downing of flight PS752. In the early hours of January 8, this notorious organization shot down the flight over Tehran International Airport, killing 176 innocent passengers and an unborn child.
Since its establishment in 1979, the IRGC has been terrorizing protesters and opponents of the Islamic government not only in Iran but across the globe. This institution plays a significant role in militarily and financially supporting terrorist groups in the Middle East. The IRGC also played a major role in the brutal crackdown on the November 2019 protests and the Women, Life, Freedom movement.
Listing the IRGC as a terrorist organization has always been one of the main demands of the Association over the past years. We thank the esteemed Government of Canada, all political parties, activists, and individuals who contributed to this achievement. We are also grateful to the brave people of Iran who have stood up against this oppressive organization and have continuously supported the families of the victims.
The Association continues to insist on its other demands, including pursuing the case of the downed flight in the International Court of Justice, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the International Criminal Court, cooperation with Ukraine in pursuing their criminal case, and the opening of a criminal case in Canada.
We neither forget nor forgive the killers of Iran’s children.
